SEO Is Not a Mystery. It Is Answering Questions Better Than Anyone Else.
Search engines rank the page that answers the question best. Most small business sites never answer a question at all.
Search engines rank the page that answers the question best. Most small business sites never answer a question at all. They describe the business.
That is the whole gap. It is why a five-page site with real answers beats a fifty-page site full of copy about excellence and passion.
Google is matching a question to a page
Somebody types a question. Google looks for a page that answers exactly that question, from a site it trusts, that loads fast enough to be worth sending them to.
Everything else in SEO serves those three things.
Write the page the searcher wanted
Take the twenty questions your customers ask you on the phone. Each one is a page or a heading.
"How much does it cost." "How long does it take." "Do you come out to Yahk." "What happens if it rains."
Nobody in your industry has written those pages properly, because everybody is busy writing about their commitment to quality.
Free traffic compounds. Paid traffic stops.
An ad delivers a visitor and then bills you for the next one. A page that ranks delivers visitors for years at no extra cost.
The trade is time. Search results move slowly. Expect months, not weeks. That is also why competitors who start later cannot catch you quickly.
The technical part is short
- Every page needs its own title and description
- Pages must load fast, especially on a phone
- Your business name, address, and phone number must match everywhere online
- Old web addresses must redirect when you change them
That is most of it. The rest is writing.
Ranking builds trust before anyone visits
People treat a top result as a recommendation. Reaching page one changes what a stranger assumes about you before they read a word.
What to do this week
Open your site. Find one page. Rewrite it to answer one specific question a customer actually asked you. Give it a title that contains that question.
Do that ten times and you will outrank businesses with far larger budgets.
Email jon@delcaromedia.com and I will tell you which ten questions to start with.
